As spring gradually gets closer, so do shorts and flip-flops. For some, vacations are right around the corner. It’s time to break out the razors or better yet, make a wax appointment for the soon to be exposed skin. Don’t get us wrong; there are certainly some excellent shaving butter and creams out there. But for extended periods of smoothness, we recommend professional waxing.
Here are a few tips to prepare yourself for your wax appointment.
Gently exfoliate your skin a day or two before your wax appointment. Gentle dry brushing or using exfoliating gloves is an ideal way to remove or slough off dead skin before your appointment. Avoid rough washcloths and harsh exfoliating creams.
By removing the dead skin before your wax appointment. It allows the wax to stick to the hair instead of the skin providing a smoother wax without the bumps and ingrown hairs that can be associated with waxing. Always be sure to moisturize after exfoliating to keep your skin smooth and hydrated.
It’s essential to communicate with you esthetician. Make sure to talk to your waxer before she starts about any skin sensitivities or allergic reactions you may have had in the past. It is also important to communicate with her on any medications you are taking. Some medicines have adverse reactions to waxing. In addition, you should always avoid waxing during menstruation as it causes sensitivity and can make the process more painful.
Unfortunately, waxing can be painful in sensitive areas. The more you wax, the less pain you will encounter during a waxing session. It is important to avoid caffeine and alcohol and even exercise right before waxing. These cause blood flow which increases pain during waxing.
You may take Tylenol before you wax, but you should avoid aspirin. Aspirin works as a blood thinner, and it induces blood flow. Avoid aspirin and other blood thinners at least an hour before an appointment.
It is just as important to take care of your skin post-wax. Keep your skin hydrated with moisturizer. Keep your hands off the freshly waxed skin. It can cause irritation and can even cause infection. You should also avoid tight clothing and wait at least 24 hours before tanning.
The Estheticians at Mirror Image Salon are fully trained in waxing. You can feel confident that your technician will take the utmost care of your skin, level of comfort and final results during every waxing appointment.
As winter turns into spring in these next months ahead, its fun to experiment with new nail trends and new colors on your hands and feet. Whether your choice is nude, infused with some shimmer or a dramatic splash of intense color or the highly popular modern metallic.
Metallic or chrome nails are beautiful and it’s an absolutely fun nail that everyone is going crazy for. If you love bling, but you’re tired of glitter, the metallic or chrome nail is the answer to a different yet unique set of nails.
Trending this year is the complete other side of the spectrum of the metallic and also equally as popular, the ultra-popular matte nails. Colors range from reds, burgundies, greys, and blacks to neutrals, nudes, rose golds, and pink shades. Matte nails are exactly as it sounds. Free of any shine.
Set to be one of the biggest nail trends this year and embraced by Kyle Jenner and the Kardashians is the coffin nail. The hot new nail shape guaranteed to class up any nail. Similiar in shape to the stiletto but easier to maintain. Coffin nails are long, tapered in and filed flat at the tip.
Back by popular demand, the solid color nail. We’ve anxiously waited for it to come back. Different to the 80’s a mix of colors are always fun. Paying special attention to changing the look of at least 2 nails and adding a little nail art and possibly even some bling.
To stay current on to the chicest of nails, call or stop by Mirror Image Salon for a full set of Acrylics, Gels, Gel Polish or a relaxing pedicure. Mirror Image offers side by side pedicures for you and your bestie. Mirror Image is a full service salon offering hair, nails, waxing, tanning, and a full service barber shop.
There are more and more barber shops popping up on every corner. Some you can be in and out in 15 minutes and some that take more like an hour. It doesn’t mean a 15-minute cut is going to be a bad haircut. It may be just the ole’ standard buzz cut. The 60-minute cut may be the difference between the barber taking that much needed time on fading in your lines and making sure the cut works with the shape of your head. There is nothing worse than leaving the barber with a bad cut. You know the one we have all had! A bad haircut can take weeks even months to get rid of. Here are a few tips to help you get the right cut.
This is pretty simple by just a little Facebook stalking. See what your barber’s clients are saying about them. Do you have a friend with a nice fade? Ask them who is cutting their hair. Check out some of our barber facebook references here.
Know what you want
Bring a photo. It doesn’t have to be a commercial photograph. Even a photo on your phone will help your barber get a sense of the cut you are looking for. No need to apologize. Sometimes people think it’s going to offend us. We would always prefer to see what you’re talking about over reading your mind. Now, if you’re looking for something super extravagant, you might want to shoot the barber a quick photo to make sure they have enough time scheduled for you. If you have been going to the same barber once a month or 5 years and you’re planning on a drastic change. They may not have scheduled you enough time.
Make sure you know how long that new cut is going to take to style before walking out the door. If you are a roll out of bed, jump in the shower and leave for work kind of guy, you don’t want a cut that is going to require a lot of grooming and product. You probably want the towel dry and run a comb through it cut.
Don’t expect a pho-hawk if you’re a balding man. That just isn’t going to cut it. (pun intended) Your barber can (with reason) make your hair look thicker with the right cut AND the right product. But don’t expect miracles.
Barbershops aren’t what they use to be. While some do take walk inns, most barbers take appointments and those after 2:00 appointments get full really fast. If you’ve got a hot date this weekend and want a lineup. Don’t call your barber at 3:00 on Friday expecting to get in before they go home. It’s always a good idea to book ahead.

Anyone with curly hair has heard on multiple occasions from your friends with straight hair, OMG! I love your curls. Meant to be a compliment, they have no idea the difficulties of styling curly hair.
Knowing how to style curly hair can often be a challenge. How do I style the front? Which side should it go to? Do you have a good side? More often than not, people with curly hair have a good side and well, a not so good side. One side is always curlier than the other. Am I right girls?
Tips for curly hair starts here
Comb from the bottom.
Combing from the bottom is the gentlest way to remove or detangle a knot. If combing hair from the top down. You will just compile the knots at the bottom. The only way to get out of this mess is to power through it ripping hair out and leaving a mess behind. Always use a wide tooth comb and never a brush.
Spit ends never look good, and they make curly hair even look worse. The frizziness peeks. It is important to schedule a trim with your hairdresser every six to eight weeks to remove damaged ends leaving your curls healthy and bouncy.
Check your shampoo
One of the worst things for your curls is sulfates. Sulfate is an additive used in cleaning products and detergents that is way to harsh for curly hair. Big Sexy Hair has a sulfate free volumizing shampoo. It provides body with weightless moisturizer leaving your hair clean and curly.
In the winter, the cold, dry air will wreak havoc on those curls. And summer, don’t even get me started with summer the dry heat and the wind. These just do not mix with curly hair. Curls need extra hydration. Curly Sexy hair by Big Sexy adds moisture and controls the frizz. Don’t forget to rinse your hair in cool water. It’s better for your hair, and it locks the hairs cuticle leaving it soft and moisturized.
The first tip to styling curly hair to let your hair air dry. Hair dryers can leave your hair damaged and dry. If you must use a blowdryer. Dry on low heat and use a diffuser. One of my favorite hair tips is the perfect pin. When the curls are frolicking in front of your face, take the curl, give it a twist and securely pin it from underneath. Another common complaint for the curly hair go’ers is the lack of volume on the top of the head. A simple cure for the flat head it to just give it a spin. Flip the part to the other side.

Fall is a time for pumpkin spice, warm colors, boots and cozy clothes. The landscape changes, the leaves change color, and we begin to think about making changes to our hair with a new fall hair color. Your golden blonde was so perfect over the summer, but as we move into the colder months, it’s time to for your new fall hair color.
Here’s how you can effectively work with your stylist to pick the perfect new fall hair color.
Do a little research. It’s not a bad idea to ask your friends where they get their hair done. Hairstylists and colorists are artists, and all have a unique style. You need to find the color that’s right for you.
We all see that girl. You know, the one with the perfect hair. Why not ask her if you can take a quick picture? After all, a picture is worth a thousand words, right? The secret is to look for someone with the same skin tone and eye color. This way the shade will be a better match for you. You wouldn’t want to put Carrie Underwood’s hair color on Martina McBride. They both share the love of country music but let’s just not swap hair color.
Avoid using technical hair terms. Like ash or double process unless you really know what they mean. No one wants to walk out of a salon with green hair because they insisted they wanted ash hair. Instead ask for honey, caramel or even mocha.
The right fall hair color makes a significant difference in how you look
